After a really dry winter and early spring, the rains have returned and so they have coaxed a terrific number of wildflowers out of the prairie earth. Over the previous weeks we now have seen many species, listed here are a few of them:
Purple coneflower – a showy plant about 1-2 ft tall with purple petals surrounding a deep red-violet middle disk
Black-eyed Susan – a standard perennial with vibrant yellow petals and darkish middle
Prairie coneflower – just like the black-eyed Susan, this plant is taller (2-3 ft) sporting yellow petals round a big middle that’s darkish brown and egg-shaped
Purple poppy-mallow – low-growing species with purplish petals
Butterfly milkweed – lovely prairie perennial with vibrant orange flowers, aptly named because it attracts all kinds of butterflies and different pollinators
Prairie wild rose – small shrub with pink flowers and coated in small spines
All these vegetation and plenty of extra await discovery in your subsequent go to.
