Audubon honors Lady Bird Johnson, Terry Hershey Award winners at 10th anniversary celebration

 AUSTIN — The Nationwide Audubon Society celebrated an inspirational milestone earlier this month, the tenth Anniversary of the Texas Ladies in Conservation program, with a celebration hosted on the Bullock Texas State Historical past Museum in Austin, TX.  

 Audubon acknowledged Girl Fowl Johnson, former First Girl of the US, with a posthumous Legacy Award. Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of Girl Fowl and the late president Lyndon B. Johnson, acquired the award on her mom’s behalf.  

 Over the previous decade, the Texas Ladies in Conservation program has honored greater than 30 trailblazing girls with the celebrated Terry Hershey Award. For this milestone celebration, all previous recipients have been invited to return, and the occasion celebrated the contributions of all honorees, together with these whose impression continues past their lifetime. 

 “Texas Ladies in Conservation commemorates the ladies who’ve led conservation efforts in each nook of the state for effectively over a century,” mentioned Audubon Govt Director Lisa Gonzalez. “The spirit of their work continues to encourage present and future generations of Texas conservation leaders day-after-day.  The Terry Hershey Award honors excellent girls who’ve demonstrated distinctive management in conservation, environmental stewardship, and neighborhood engagement throughout Texas. The award is known as after the late Terry Hershey, who devoted a lot of her life to conservation efforts, particularly in Houston. Mrs. Hershey was a former Texas Parks and Wildlife commissioner, and served on boards for numerous conservation organizations, together with the Nationwide Audubon Society, Houston Audubon Society, and Audubon’s Texas State Advisory Board.
