U.S. livestock: Hogs slip on news China cancelled some U.S. pork shipments

Most Chicago lean hog futures slid on Thursday because the U.S. Division of Agriculture reported China had canceled 12,000 metric tons of U.S. pork exports within the week ending April 17.

“The cancellation was positively as a result of tariffs and commerce conflict with China,” advisor Dennis Smith advised the Wall Avenue Journal.

He added that China usually imports low worth pork merchandise, together with toes and offal, so the markets response to the information might have eased because the buying and selling day continued.

Most lively June lean hog contracts closed at 99.925 cents per pound, down 0.225 cents. July lean hogs misplaced 0.250 cents to settle at 100.050 cents per pound. Could lean hog contracts gained 0.075 cents to shut at 91.950.

U.S. livestock: CME cattle gallop to new highs on record cash prices

Chicago Mercantile Exchange live cattle and feeder cattle futures stormed to contract highs on Friday, as tight U.S. supplies drove cash prices to records this week, traders said.

The USDA reported pork carcass cutout worth at $95.86 per cwt, up $1.78.

Most lively June reside cattle contracts slipped 0.100 cents to shut at 208.000 cents. August reside cattle gained 0.225 cents per pound to settle at 204.100 cents.

Most lively August feeder cattle futures closed at 292.700 cents per pound, up 0.525 cents. Could feeders closed at 289.075 cents, up 0.725 cents.

Alternative boxed beef ended the day at $333.70 per cwt, up $1.73 whereas choose boxed beef closed at $316.35 per cwt, up $1.83 in accordance with the USDA’s afternoon report.
